I'm graduating in 2 years, and I have my heart set on Southern California.

However, I want to know what are the best cities in the U.S. for Graphic Designers?

Hi, I know it's been a while since you posted this but it looks like you've still got another year to go in school...anyway, I'm a graphic designer and I live in SoCal. I will be relocating out of state soon but there are a lot of graphic design jobs here so I would recommend it for that...the only thing is cost of living is really high—one of the reasons my husband and I are moving—but I hear northern california also has a lot to offer for Graphic Design jobs. The cool thing is, you can also do freelance and get jobs online and then do it from anywhere.
I also recommend working as a production artist first so you can really get a grasp on the practical/production side of design and getting to know the programs really well. Either with a print shop (both digital AND offset/print press) or an ad agency or try both. That's what I did and it was invaluable experience in my career.
Internships are really great too, if you can find someone who will give you some guidance. Some of them pay too (mine did), though usually not much so you may need to supplement with another job, if you can't afford it.
One more thing, if you haven't already done this, LEARN WEB!!! everyone wants websites and, though it's extremely competitive, you can usually make pretty good money doing them but you need to know what you're doing so you can get it done as quickly as possible.
Hope that helps and all the best to you!

HI. Have you moved yet? My husband is looking to move to a place where he could work as a web graphic designer or something like that.. We live in Cali and we def dont want to move to socal cuz of how busy and clustered it is. We thought about Utah but I love the Coast. Torn... lol.. I guess it all comes down how on where he can find a job and how much the pay is.
Pay is important cuz if he makes as much as he makes now then we will be good to go but if he makes less than 49000 then we are gonna be hurting for a while.
any who.. just wanted to ask where you decided to move. He has one more year of school and so far he has had all A's 4.0 gpa and all that jazz.. so i think he will do good in this field...
HOpe you found somewhere to live.
