Uhh actually, among Black Americans in the South, its a very common phrase to hear. Do you even know the meaning of it?

"Syrup" refers to Codeine laced prescription cough syrup which is often times, but not always mixed with soft drinks such as Sprite Remix with a Jolly Rancher thrown in to alter the taste. It is then called "Drank" & consumed for its highly intoxicating euphoric effects the user experiences while under the influence. Time slows to a crawl & the whole body becomes numbed. Hip Hop Music called "Chopped & Screwed" also invented in Houston is usually listened to by the user to enhance their high.

Houston is home to many so called "pain & anxiety" management clinics where users can easily obtain their fix for a couple hundred bucks. Old ones get shut down new ones open up all the time. Its a game of cat & mouse amongst law enforcement & these shady doctors.

I hear that! I had a nasty "cold" in China a while back and a couple bottles of cough syrup really hit the spot

Pittsburgh: Steel Town -- or as a native would pronounce it, "Still Tahn." Of course, said native would be more likely to refer to it by its more formal name, "Picks-burgh."

Pittsburgh is one linguistically strange town, er, "tahn."

Only the borough of Manhattan is referred to as 'The City' and really only by people in the metro area to distinguish it from the outer boroughs/counties. I wouldn't call it a nickname in the true sense.

Chicago is referring to as "the city" by people in the metro area. Sometimes even in places that are technically outside of the metro area.

Examples:
"I'm from the Chicago area but not from the city." "I take the Metra to the city every day for work." "I came down here to Kankakee all the way from the city!"
