Mafia owns a few nightclubs/restaurants in Boston (Strip by Strega comes to mind) and some other smal properties in Metro north.

Russian Mafia is huge in Queens, especially around Brighton Beach. And their biggest supporter now lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in DC.

There's no such thing as the mafia.

With the Italian Mafia, definitely New York, with its FIVE families while most cities had just one.

New Orleans used to be the only city in the Deep South with a Mafia presence (also the only Southern city with a large Italian American population). The Marcello crime family was very powerful but is now defunct after the New Orleans Godfather, Carlos Marcello died sometime in the 80s or early 90s. His descendants do own several businesses and real estate in the New Orleans area today, all of it legitimate (though the seed money probably came from organized crime). Crime here is now dominated by black drug gangs though Hispanic gangs are also increasing.

One of the most famous restaurants in the area, Mosca's, was where the mob would always meet and there's a lot of mafia lore there. This place has won national awards and is considered a major off the beaten track attraction.
