Even if you did consider AFL, I doubt the would be the most popular sport in any state.

Aside from popularity, The Tampa Bay storm are probably the most successful team in Florida at the Pro level, and my high school's wrestling team is probably the most successful team in the state period. They held the longest winning streak in high school sports history with 459 consecutive matches, spanning 34 years. The finally lost my senior year. They didn't just play local teams either. They played teams statewide and nationwide.

I am assuming this may be a Duke perspective; honestly the UNC/Duke rivalry just seems plain awesome. I have seen a match up at UNC and want to see a game at cameron (FWIW I am not a Duke fan but a huge fan of college basketball; this coming from a huge Big East and Nova fan, the best wildcats in sports).

Well as I mentioned before, some of these are just guesses.

I could change Michigan, Minnesota, (probably) Louisiana, and Tennessee...

It's hard to compare pro and college sports...for Georgia the pro team would be the Braves, while the college team unfortunately would be UGA.

Go to Austin......

They seem to do just fine without any real pro sports teams

No love for the Spurs? 4 ships! They're also considered the 3rd or 4th best franchise in the NBA of all time depending on who's ratings. Ratings that value the fact that the Bulls have two more ships than SA put Chicago at number three behind Boston and L.A., while ratings that value the fact that the Spurs outside of the Duncan era are much better than the Bulls outside of the Jordan era have SA at three.

I have nothing against the Spurs. But they still can't touch the Cowboys success throughout it's history.
33 playoff wins- most in NFL
Record 20 winning seasons in a row - NFL Record and will likely never be broken again
Most valuable franchise in American Sports
Consistently brings the highest ratings for networks that broadcast NFL games every season
Winningest team by percentage in the Super Bowl era.

I can go on and on. This is no smack to the Spurs. But to how successful as a team and as a business the Cowboys have been since it began and especially in the Super Bowl era.

Yeah..... it's the Cowboys.

The Spurs are a great organization, but they are a distant 2nd as far as the sports team ladder in Texas.
