I'm very sorry. But Miami can build all the scrapers it wants. It cannot keep up with the growth that DFW and Houston has sustained in the last 18 years.
In 2000, the metro are populations for the three areas were.
1. DFW 5,161,520
2. Miami-Ft. Lauderdale 5,007,998
3. Houston 4,715,402
In as little as 7 years, this is how the the three areas look now
1. DFW 6,145,037
2. Houston 5,628,101
3. Miami-Ft. Lauderdale 5,413, 212
Nearly 1 million people moved to DFW in 7 years. Just under 900,000 moved to Houston in that same time span. Barely over 400,000 has moved to Miami with the new scrapers and all. It doesn't compare. Now, unless 80,000 people will fit in each of those skyscrapers being built in Miami, it has no chance to pass DFW or Houston. DFW has widened the gap and Houston will begin to do the same. Washington DC and Atlanta will surpass Miami within the next 5 years or sooner. Miami is growing. But not as fast as these cities.

Calm down even Albuquerque's metro had bigger growth, i think i should know urban planning is my major i study stuff like that everyday! anyways, DFW will be one of americas fastest growing with along another 20 metros and miami's is 19th so not a very big population booom...
Um, actually Northern California's mega region is going to be 3rd. By 2050, there are going to be 24 Million people within 100 miles of San Francisco and guess what? The Bay Area will be the prinicipal job source for the entire region so the region is on a crash course with consolidation.
There are other mega regions but this one is the most likely to actually become a single Metro Area.

Those are mind-boggling numbers. All the negatives the urabanist anti-sprawl crowd say about Dallas, Houston and Atlatna; they are blowing words out their a$$. Not one of them has an answer for that much inflow in such a short period of time. 1 million new residents over a span of 7 years is going to create sprawl, period!
