Why is Orlando hated upon? Perhaps because it is the No. 1 tourist destination in the world, and yet every single tourist attraction there is manufactured? Until Disney came along and changed the history of the place, there was absolutely NO reason why anybody should go there -- unless you consider looking at orange groves exciting. It is 100 percent fake -- more fake, even, than Southern California, which at least has natural attractions. Orlando isn't even near the ocean, for crying out loud. It is offensive to me that millions upon millions of Europeans and Asians and South Americans save up their entire lives to visit there and say to folks back home, "We've been to America." Orlando is the sorriest representation of what is "America" -- save for Las Vegas.

That sounds like jealousy. Its obvious people don't only like visiting natural tourist attractions, and these man made attractions were selected to be built in Orlando because of its climate and its location in Florida (the crossroads). Its not orlandos fault that people like what it offers, its the peoples fault. Thats like saying "I hate how the media reports so much about celebrity scandals but not enough on real issues". Thats because the media wants ratings, and they get ratings by airing stuff that people want to watch. Its not the media's fault that most people in this world like hearing about scandals over real issues.

Your post has so much ignorance in it. You think all Orlando has to offer is theme parks and that is very wrong. Orlando became a popular resort during the early 1900's, thats how Winter Park was created. Orlando has many clear natural springs and an abundance of lakes, that is why national wake boarding championships are held in Orlando every year. Its also only 45 mins away from the beaches.

Orlando is a major metropolitan area of over 2 million people, and offers a lot of big city amenities like venues, shopping, culture and much more industry out side of tourism. It has a great quality of life and many people do not know about it. Most people think of theme parks when they hear the name Orlando and don't think twice about it. Thats why you see the only people on here who like Orlando are the people who know the real Orlando, the rest dislike it out of ignorance.

P.S. I didn't know America has an exact definition. Orlando is American because its in America. Most european tourists don't want to visit hictoric cultured cities or natural attractions because they have PLENTY of that in Europe that blows Americans historic sights out of the water. Theme parks in Europe don't come close to what you find in Orlando and other American cities. Thats what a lot of europeans are attracted to, and they have every right to say they visited America because it's just as American as anything else in America, its a diverse country. Isn't that what makes it so great?
