It's awful. In this day and age, in America, several of the southern states have NO MINIMUM WAGE.

In Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina, it is legal for an employer to pay an employee 25 cents an hour.

Aren't there a lot of poor people in the south? Why are poor people being treated like that?

Here is a state-by-state map of minimum wage laws.

Green - States with minimum wage rates higher than the Federal rate
Blue - States and territories with minimum wage rates the same as the Federal rate
Yellow - States with no state minimum wage law
Red - States and territories with minimum wage rates lower than the Federal rate

Read the link again. It says federal minumum wage law applies in those states. They don't have a min. wage law on the books in those states.

LOL. Surely the OP doesn't think people in the South are working for 25 cents an hour?

Every state in the country is required to pay at least $7.25 per hour.

From the D.O.L. website.

Quote:
Federal minimum wage law supersedes state minimum wage laws where the federal minimum wage is greater than the state minimum wage. In those states where the state minimum wage is greater than the federal minimum wage, the state minimum wage prevails.

It sure sounded like the OP thought that. Either that or trolling.

No, but I mistakenly thought it was legal. Whether someone would accept such a job is another story.
