Even amid the country’s worst economic setback in decades, our updated analysis shows that Texas’ competitive edge over California remains sharp. This paper updates the economic scoreboard we calculated in our study of Texas and California in 2008. Although the policy environment has changed over the last two years, Texas’ edge over California has not.
Like the rest of the nation, Texas’ economic growth hit a serious speed bump during the great recession. But, its economic decline in the state has been milder than in California and the rest of the country. The Texas economy has been growing stronger, with less negative volatility, than California or the nation overall.

California gets 40% of GLOBAL Green Tech Venture Capital!
California leads nation in green tech - SFGate

Quote:

It's not true that businesses are fleeing the state, Henton said. Adding up the numbers of businesses that started up compared with those that closed or moved elsewhere showed that the state gained a net average of 58,500 new businesses each year from 1995 to 2008, the report said.

California's leadership in green technology bodes well for its future, the report said. The state has attracted $11.6 billion in clean-tech venture capital since 2006, about one-quarter of all global investment in the sector. In the first half of this year it drew 40 percent of all global clean-tech VC. More than half that money was invested in Silicon Valley.

California also had a disproportionate share of U.S. solar energy patents (39 percent of those issued from 2007 to 2009), battery technology patents (20 percent in the same time period) and wind energy patents (16 percent in that period). In 2007, the state generated 90 percent of the country's total solar electricity output.
California attracts more investment in its global clean tech ventures than any other COUNTRY, let alone any state. And that's of 2010.

So while I am really happy that you have found your Texan nirvana, its entirely possible for you to enjoy your future home without trying to belittle California every chance you get. LOL

It's not a bashing of California, it's a report about growth prospects & competitiveness, everybody know it's not a California's strength, it's not a surprise...
Wyoming had an impressive growth the 10 last years ! And Texas beat the other big states about economic/income growth !

That's what they said in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Well, this came out yesterday by one of the most prestigious scientific research publications in the United States:
Excellent Article:

As far as research being cited in the 3 major journals, 4 of the Top 10 metros in the world are in California! This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 950$sx252$s and weights 49$sKB.

On the world stage, a California Metro leads all US regions as far as global citations in various scientific journals:

Our research universities are among the highest echelon of scientific schools in the world and so long as they keep their competitive edge, California is headed in one direction and that is up.

I never criticized California about research, this state is the leader in this sector and won't be overcome. But economically it's another story, Texas is clearly ahead economically.
But California isn't the worst anyway, it's much better than Michigan.
