Does your city have an eradicting middle-class? If so ,what do you believe the reason for this is ?I know that some of the reasons can be illegal immigration and sometimes it can be catastrophic weather.
Yes, I feel we do. I am feeling I can barely make it on my income anymore with 3 children. (60,000 a yr.) That is if I want them to go to college and have health care. I live in Chandler, AZ. (PHX metro area) Husband is in construction.
Definitely. The cost of an average home here is not on par with the median incomes, and our economy is weak. My northern and southern neighboring counties already lost most of their middle class.
I think the middle class in sacramento is actually very strong, even though real estate is very expensive. It is mainly because of so many families moving from the bay area and buying large houses in the burbs of sacramento.
I am in an area where the middle class seems to be growing. I know that's not the case in some places. We are getting more middle class people moving here from more expensive places.
Illinois seems to have a fairly prosperous/sizeable (non-upper) middle class. No matter how often you vote for George Bush, they just seem to keep spreading. I think something's wrong with the economy ... doesn't the Fed know about this?!
Considering myself a part time Sacramentan and other part time San Diegan, I think both towns have a good middle class. Sacramento's largest employer is the state government, which pays very middle class wages to most of their employees, and San Diego has a strong military connection, keeping both towns centered.
