I still would imagine either Missouri, Illinois, or Ohio....some place in the Midwest in the middle of the country...Springfield, Ohio is probably too small. Illinois or Missouri are my final votes. Both are your kind of average joe small cities in the middle of the country.

Someone else said it, Matt Groening was born and raised in Portland. He modeled the show after what life was like growing up in Portland, even though the city is much different now. Many of the places and names in the show are from Portland streets and local areas.
