I've been watching The Simpsons since I was 10 years old when it first started airing. Still love the show too.

I'd guess that the Simpsons would be set in the Midwest. From the looks and the vibe from the show. Springfield is probably a small city of maybe 20,000-30,000 people. I really don't know if any city COULD resemble it because of all the microclimates.

Hopefully the movie tells us.

I've been watching the Simpsons since they've been on the air.

On one episode, the one that was the True Hollwood Story episode, at the end the narrator mentioned that they were a Northern Kentucky family. Springfield, KY exists, but it's in central KY near Bardstown. However, up the road off I-64, there is a Simpsonville and Shelbyville.

And IIRC, to keep the gag running, they changed the state in syndicated reruns. I think they changed it to Missouri or Illinois.

They did something about this on ABC World News today....I think SPringfield, Illinois.

I'm surprised Springfield, Virginia, the closest Springfield to me, didn't try out for the movie.

Springfield, Missouri, Springfield, Illinois, or Springfield, Ohio are the most likely candidates I think, although Springfield MO is technically not really a Midwestern city given how close it is to Arkansas.
