Hi this question about the Midwest has been bugging me for quite a bit now! Of course EVERYONE knows Chicago is TOP DOG in the region but no one seems to be sure who are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th most important cities in the region - there clearly isn't much of a consensus on who else are important in the Midwest.

So my question to all of you is, which are the FOUR MOST IMPORTANT cities in the Midwest AFTER Chicago? Why so? I would love to see what you guys think regarding this issue! Thanks!

Minneapolis/St Paul, St Louis, Pittsburgh, with Cincinnati and Columbus tied... in that order. Based on Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the respective cities and overall economy.

This has been done before, but what the hell..

Minn-StPaul, Detroit , Cleveland, then a longer list of equals--Cincinnati, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Indy, Columbus, etc

Pittsburgh is not a Midwestern city, and, although they have declined, Detroit and Cleveland are still very important..

Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Cleveland. That's mainly based on population and economic clout.

My order after Chicago is ...

Minneapolis / St. Paul ( Very progressive city with healthy economy )
Detroit ( still quite viable )
Cleveland ( Fortune 500 companies, ongoing renewal & renaissance, strong healthcare )
Columbus ( Robust economy )
Cincinnati ( Huge fortune 500 companies like Proctor & Gamble based here )
