Do you find the US South more of an adjustment culturally than even crossing the border to Canada (not including Quebec/ Atlantic Canada)?

Are there other places in the world where parts of a country are more similar culturally to a neighboring country than other parts within that country?

I find the Toronto and Vancouver to be very similar to "Northern" America. Toronto could pass for any major American city in the north, reminds me of a mix between Chicago and NYC. Vancouver to a lesser degree.

Calgary is way more southern feeling than northern feeling, as much as I hate to generalize with those words. Calgary is a colder version of Houston.

I suppose the more rural areas of Canada would feel more "southern."

Quebec doesn't feel American or northern/southern at all because Montreal looks like a European city.

I've been to Toronto several times. I love the place. People in Toronto remind me more of Northerners, but way more friendly. So I guess in that aspect, they're more like Southerners. I always found myself chatting with random strangers. Gotta love Canadians

I'd say yes. Would be interesting to also pose this question at the Canadian forum and ask the same question to them.

I find northerners more friendly and southerners much more rude (particularly the rural ones).

Definitely. I grew up in Michigan...going over to Ontario...basically the exact same thing.

Go down south however, and everything changes quite a bit.

Canada is much more similar than the South. At least the anglophone part.

The South is certainly a very different place, but to me, so was Canada. There is a very different culture across the border, and it manifests in ways one wouldn't expect.

So, I suppose, my answer is "no". They are both very different to me. I can understand and would certainly fit in better someplace like Toronto, because there is an urban attitude and character there you certainly wouldn't find in the American south.
