The south doesnt have many ethnic neighborhoods because it is more integrated than the north, believe it or not. No need for separation.

The South doesn't really have ethnic urban neighborhoods because historically, Southern cities weren't entry points for immigrants to America. There was a very real need for those neighborhoods at that time. However, you do tend to see heavily Hispanic areas in Southern cities nowadays, but they are typically suburban in nature (strip malls, etc.).

I think the Southern exception to that is New Orleans, and I do think there was, perhaps, Irish and German areas in the older southern cities during the 19th century (I think Nashville used to have a German area in the 19th century, just down from that hill the Capital is on).

I was reading about that Latino immigration to the urban South and was wondering how that was working, geographically speaking. You are seeing this in KY, too, with certain suburban areas of Louisville becoming more "barrio", vs inner-city. Not to sure about Lexington...I think the latinos are in older suburban areas there, too....

there's a lot of southern food. some of it has some british influence since we're of english and scottish descent but the recipes have changed quite a bit since back then. southerners make different dishes depending on the family. it can be bbq shrimp, fried chicken, unique way of making potatoes or hash browns, sweet potato pie, etc.

So, it may be more accurate to say that it's "pure Southern food"?

Can you give some examples of this ethnic food you think northeners eat most of the time?
