One can you many different forms of criteria to determine the 'top 5 cities'. For the most part, these answeres are going to be heavily opinion influenced.

I'm only going to include 'large cities' I've been to. Those would be Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, San Diego, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. That's it. Pretty lame after I think about it.

I have spent at least a week in all and I'd have to rank them:

San Diego
Chicago
Minneapolis
Los Angeles
Philadelphia
Detroit
Las Vegas
Milwaukee

New York
Chicago
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Philadelphia
Boston
Miami

I'm sorry I can't include Washington.... but maybe I haven't seen the right parts of it (seemed fake and fabricated, bland)

I'll start mine off with the standard heavy hitters:

1. NYC
2. LA
3. Chicago
4. Washington, DC
5. Boston

(LA and Chicago will obviously be debatable)

If you want my complete top 10, here's the rest of the list:

6. San Francisco
7. Houston
8. Atlanta
9. Dallas
10. Miami
1.NYC
2.LA
3.Chicago
---------I'm lost after the top 3. I guess I'd add in Boston, DC, and San Francisco.

I should probably specify the criteria more. Your top 5/10 based on opinion, and the "real" top 5/10 based on economy, national importance, global importance, unique fields (i.e. Washington with politics, L.A. with media), importance of those unique fields, cultural impact, historical impact, influence, and relevance.

The list I included in my opening post was based on those guidelines.
