Can we get some info, links, a list going of places in the U.S. that do not have annual personal property taxes on vehicles? I can't seem to find any info on this on a widespread level. It seems to be a county level decision from what i have seen not state so we can't really generalize it by state either. So if you know of a place, a county or city that doesn't levy personal property tax on vehicles annually, list it please. Thanks.

Two states that I know of that DO have it are Kansas and Missouri. I do not recall paying it in Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas or Louisiana. You might want to post this question on the Automotive forum.

Here's a site with some more general informatin:

Isn't that article talking about buying a car and slaes tax, that's what the header implied?

What I'm talking about is the bill you get from the county assessor on your personal property tax for your vehicle each year, much like you get for your home. There are places where you get taxed for owning a car every year and it's crap quite frankly. I'm trying you find out what places don't tax you for owning your car annually.

PA has no personal property tax on your vehicle(s). If we did most likely it would start in Philly then jump to Pittsburgh (including their county's) and that would be about it. I've never heard Ohioans complain about such a tax. WV, yes.

PA has/had an annual registration fee ($25.00?) and we're required to have our cars safety inspected once a year which costs $40.00+/-.

Nebraska has that- the personal property tax billed along with the renewal fees for license plate tags totaled around $200 per year on my rather cheap Kia car back there- it was ridiculous!

It is ridiculous. It's one reason I want to keep my eleven year old Toyota. I'm finally down to paying $35 a year.

Yep, in Alabama it's also based on the age of the vehicle. The older it is the cheaper it is.

Ok nice I'm going to keep track of what you are saying in this thread and what i could find in other state threads on this issue.

Places without property tax on vehicles:
Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Indiana, Delaware

Places with property tax on vehicles:
Kansas, Missouri, West Virginia, Nebraska, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, Nevada, Georgia, New Hampshire

21/50 states accounted for so far, let's get all 50 so we have a comprehensive list. I looked for one for an hour or so the other day and couldn't find one so that's why i made this thread. Thanks for your help. Keep it coming if you have any info on states not mentioned or a correction to make.
