I guess Im dumb. Someone will have to explain this list to me. 100 poorest zip codes. Im familiar with Massachusetts since Im originally from there. Every location I see listed for Mass is far from being a poverty area by a long shot. Yet the poorest communities are not listed at all. I bet Jay Leno would love to hear his hometown of Andover, is listed as amongst the poorest zip codes in Mass. Whats with Colorado. Boulder thats just about the most affluent area of Colorado. So I must be interpreting this list the wrong way. Sorry.
Interesting that the Atmore zip code on the list is 36503, which is nothing but the prisons. I'm not sure anyone actually lives within that zip code other than prison inmates. The actual town of Atmore is 36502. That list is misleading.
Saw this thread and had to stop!
Noticed several college towns on the list....for example in South Carolina the town of Clemson was on the list.....that is the town where Clemson University is located. It seems that this list is showing the tax returns for a lot of college age kids. Then another thing is the fact that I only noticed South Carolina on the list one time that is impossible....I have lived there....it is one of the poorest states in the US.
Not just college towns, the "lowest income" California town is San Quentin, that is just one big prison. Yeah, those boys don't rake in the dough. What is it, 20ȼ per hour?

Also, this is just wages not overall income.
A meaningless list.
Yup! As somebody who's only 20 miles from San Quentin, that was the first thing I thought... nothing but a BIG prison there (former home of Charles Manson himself), so of course it has an overall low income. Truth be told, it's located in one of the wealthiest counties in the country - nearby Sausalito and Tiburon are absolutely gorgeous towns, with homes averaging between $1-1.6M. Most of the other zips on that list are college towns, so it is fairly meaningless.
