I am 33 and single as well, and I will not do the roommate thing under any circumstances. There's just too much risk of roommates stealing from you, and since I have expensive AV equipment, I do not want a roommate. Then there's the issue of having to put up with their habits too, especially if there's bad ones.

Exactly. But even aside from those things, it just wouldn't save me much money. I can rent a studio for what I would be paying for a larger place split with a roommate.

True. I'd rather pay 100 bucks on top and be on my own in an efficiency..

I don't know how single people make it on minimum wage jobs. I read stories about it, but mathematically, I don't know how it is possible when you have rent to pay.

I make about $12.00 an hour and really struggle (but I do have a car payment, regretfully).
