I would think it would depend on what someone thought made the perfect vacation. I mean somebody who loves to rock climb might think El'Capitan is the best place to vacation, where for others that would be their worst nightmare. Maybe the hustle and bustle of a large city might appeal to some people and they live for the next NYC or LA vacation, that would be my personal hell though. For me personally the best city in the US is one probably fewer than .0001% of the population has heard of. Tiny, off the beaten path, scenic, good fishing, good hiking, good camping. Friendly people, and not blistering hot in the summer, but warm and sunny. Lakes, lighthouses, islands and just relaxing. Not a great beach right in town, but if you know where to go, there are some great sand beaches to lounge away a day on. Plus some good scuba diving if you are so inclined and have a ready partner.
The name? Munising, MI. See I told you, you never heard of the place and had to turn to Google . My kind of place.
The Williamsburgh / Virginia Beach / Richmond area of Virginia
Colonial Williamsburgh, Jamestown, Yorktown, Richmond, Petersburg etc. Mansions and plantations along James River. The Beach, Norfolk Navy Yard, Busch Gardens, Six Flags Kings Dominion, shopping, Revolution and civil war sites galore.

My ideal vacation is where there are the least amount of people, and the most amount of nature. Anywhere in Michigans U.P would be the perfect vacation. Munising for sure!! In fact, going up near Grand Marais for a week this summer..cant wait!!
Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Boston. I actually liked it more than I thought I would. Very nice and the people were down to earth too. Really good trip to take around 4th of July. I loved the ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard from Hyannis and back during sunset. Just beautiful. I've heard that Nantucket is really nice too. Take the tours of Boston and Martha's Vineyard if you go. A lot of history and I hope you like Clam Chowder and seafood.
