Both sides of my family didn't come over until after 1900 and settled in Chicago and Boston respectively. My great grandmother on dad's side was born in Ireland in 1870. And great grandmother on mom's side was born in Germany in 1897. My mom was born in Chicago though didn't live there long, my dad was born in San Francisco after WWII and was out there for awhile, then Japan when he was a kid. Both sides were in FL area for Mil stuff and divorced but both still in FL. My step dad was born in Spain.
My uncle is planning on moving back to Ireland soon, so will make the full circle back to old family in Ireland... I still have family in Galway and they have been there for centuries.
I've moved all around after college and haven't picked a place to settle permanently yet to start a next generation.
Dad is from Oklahoma. Mom's a native San Franciscan, as were her parents. Their parents were Irish immigrants save for one, who was born in San Francisco. Since I was born here I guess that makes me...fourth generation San Franciscan?
Did I miscount? Anyway, I'm the last member of my family to live here - all the rest bailed for the suburbs or North State ages ago. I have a longer family history here than almost anyone I know. Very transient place.
My mom's entire family migrated from southern Virginia to D.C. for jobs living in the city from the 1930's till now. My dad's entire family migrated to Baltimore city for jobs from southern virginia in the 1930's and have been there ever since.
My grandmother's grandparents moved to Chicago from Ireland in the 1860s. She married my grandpa and stayed in Chicago, while her sisters married and settled in Wisconsin in the 30s and 40s. My family moved to Southwest Michigan when I was five, but I consider the whole Lake Michigan region--Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan--our family stomping ground.
I don't live there now but I'm from the Philadelphia area (Bucks/Montgomery County) where some of my ancestors have lived since colonial times. The earliest immigrant was in 1702, he was my 7th great grandfather so that's 10 generations, I believe. My family still live there and I plan to move back eventually.
My grandparents was not from Dallas. My grandfather was born November 1913 in Paris, TX and My Grandmother was born November 1924 in Ladonia, TX. They had their first 3 children in East Texas. They moved to Dallas in 1951 and had my uncle in 1958. In December 24, 1967 my mama was born. So 4 generations was born in Dallas, that's not including my mama's 3 older siblings.
I'm the 6th generation to live in my town, a suburb of Boston. Although only one branch (my Mother's Mother's Father's Mother's parents moved here). However, I am also only 3rd-7th generation American on any side.
