This is based on the recent Census CSA and MSA estimates for 2006.

As you can see, the only metro areas to lose population in that time frame were: Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Rochester, Dayton, New Orleans, Syracuse, Toledo, Youngstown, and Scranton. All 90 other metro areas gained population. The biggest percentage gainer was the Cape Coral-Fort Myers area, with a 29.59% gain since 2000, followed closely by Las Vegas with 29.25%.

I don't think it was ever #6. In fact, I think it used to be much lower, before the Miami and West Palm Beach MSAs were consolidated in the statistics.

Yikes, two of my favorites are losing ground! Albany has surpassed Rochester and Seattle has eclipsed Mpls/St Paul! (MSP still ahead of San Diego and Denver, tho)

And what the heck is "Acadiana", LA?

Since when is Flint part of the Detroit CSA? Seems like it hasn't been the case for that long, and if they weren't combined, I think it would probably tip both Flint and metro Detroit into the negative population growth category.
