I agree with the poster who mentioned Fort Greene in Brooklyn. Park Slope, also in Brooklyn, has middle and upper-middle class whites and blacks living side by side.
In the Phoenix area, middle and upper middle class blacks and whites tend to live side by side. This is especially true in Chandler and Glendale.
Baltimore is rather segregated like many other northern cities. However,there are a few neighborhoods where blacks and whites as well as hispanics live side by side. In southwest Baltimore, in and around the neighborhoods of Pigtown, Carrollton Ridge, Union Square, and Hollins market, blacks and whites live side by side.Mostly lower income except Union square. On the East side of the city, it seems black, white, and Hispanic live side by side on the western, northern, and eastern sides of Patterson park. Also, Lauraville is an area where black and white live side by side in larger, single family homes.
The Phillips neighborhood in South Minneapolis is a very diverse neighbhood and relatively little segregation within the neighborhood. Pretty unique to the Twin Cities area actually.
Cities or neighborhoods? Baltimore has been commonly known as the most northern southern city or the most southern northern city. Since it is liminal, either label can be applied....no need for snotty remarks.
The Midwest and Northeast are supposed to be the most segregated areas of America...but what neighborhoods there buck the trend when it comes to black-white segregation? And do they exist peacefully in these neighborhoods?
The ones i know of so far are Hyde Park, Chicago, which is about half black, half-white and Soulard in St Louis, which i can't find statistics on, but i know it has lots of blacks and whites living side-by-side.
I believe that both whites and blacks in Hyde Park are fairly high income and there is little racial tension. Don't know about Soulard
I moved to Lansing, Michigan about a year ago. Most of the neighborhoods tend to be segregated by income not race.
I spent about 20 years living in the Dallas, Texas area. Most of the neighborhoods tend to segregated by race. In the suburbs you might see a little more integrated neighborhoods based on income levels.
