I think there are quite a few large cities that are majority white (like above 90%) but finding one that is larger than 95% and has a population above 50,000 is probably very rare, so your right about that.

My home town, Benton, Illinois, and high school rival town 5 miles away are both on the list. West Frankfort is 98%.

regarding--government--pushing for multiculture

Several posters mentioned Dubuque Iowa ( lovely river town) that has a high percent of whites (95%+)

A few years back ,the mayor of that city got in trouble because he was trying to recruit minorities to move there. Not for job openings that needed filling, but because he believed it was his responsibility as mayor to take action so the residents wouldn't be deprived of a multiculture experience.

He caught a lot of "heat" for it from the citizens and it made the national media.

Apparently he didn't read the job description of being mayor before he ran.

The whitest major city (500,000+ population) is Portland which is approximately 75% white. There are several sizable cities (100,000+) such as Spokane, Boise, Sioux Falls, Billings, Lincoln, Manchester and Detroit's large suburban cities that hover somewhere around the 85-90% range. There are plenty of small towns across the country however that are 98% white. It's actually the norm in northern New England and the upper Plains outside of a handful of smaller cities.

The most Chinese city in the U.S. is Monterey Park, California in the San Gabriel Valley which at the time of the 2000 Census was 41% Chinese (and 62% Asian as a whole, one of only a handful of majority-Asian cities on the U.S. mainland). Many of the cities in the San Gabriel Valley such as Alhambra and Rosemead have very large Chinese populations, where 1/3 or more of the city is Chinese.

And for the record, as of the most recent findings in 2005, Atlanta is 59% black (not 80%) and the city of Los Angeles is 49% Latino as opposed to 70%.

In LA thats not counting all the illegals! more like 85 percent!

Wow! 20 of these 100 towns are in Pennsylvania (assuming I counted right). None in Colorado, I see. And we are the ones accused of being too "white bread".

They are there regardless if the government or media 'pushes' it? You mean, acknowledges it, right? As in, you prefer a time when everyone just pretended they were invisible and we all lived in a 'leave it to Beaver' episode?

It's safe to say we've ALWAYS had 'minorities'. Mexicans are always going to come over the border. African-American people have been here since Europeans brought them here.

There is no such thing as the government or media 'pushing' them to be here...they are just 'here', and they are acknowldging that they are here.

Springfield, MO was pretty white and the outlying areas. We lived right outside of Springfield and I have to say without looking at stats, it was probably 98% white.
We are moving outside of Roanoke soon, and the school district my kids will be going to are 98% white. Didn't go out of my way to plan it like that, but picked the county according to test scores and this county did very well.
