Moving closer to the ocean.... (low crime, school, living) - General U.S. - City-Data Forum

Hi there...

We are from Lexington, KY and in 2 years after I graduate nursing school we want to move somewhere close to the beach.
Can anyone suggest a city close to the beach, with low crime, family oriented (we have a 6 and 3 y.o.) not too busy but still with lots to do with a short drive? (Does such a place even exist???)

Places like that do exist but you need to let us know if you want year 'round Summer (such as Florida) or if you want 4 distinct seasons (northeast) or perhaps the west coast?

Well... we wouldn't like to be in FL but we don't have any preferences as far as east or west or gulf coasts. We would like to avoid living on a busy area because we are used to the slow pace of life of Lexington and really like it.

Have you tried the Washington Coast? It's beautiful.... I live 2 hours from the beach, 2 hours from the mountains and it's bout 2 hours each way to Portland, Oregon or Seattle.
