I'm just going to pass over Sacramento for obvious reasons and anwer for San Francsisco, since I was born there. Many people will probably say the Transamerica Pyramid, and it's great looking in my opinoin, but my favorite is the Bank of America Building. I think it's a great integration of modern architecture, while still remembering the famous bay windows of San Francisco.
I also spend about half my time in San Diego, where no historic buildings qualify for skyscrapers. It also might be strange to put a building that's occupied by a hotel at least in part on the list... but since it's pretty much the way it has to be in San Diego, I would have to say the Emerald Plaza is the nicest looking, especially at night.
I love the Art deco skyscraper in Buffalo that is City Hall - the largest in the nation -
I have to say though, that our Rand Building (1928) in Buffalo is very impressive too and is a tight match between City Hall and this one, but considering it was the inspiration for the Empire State Building (1929) in NYC, I think it's really cool:
I like the Fountain Place... So pretty-full...
