Basically what the thread says. Here are the states I know of with rivers named after them. The three obvious ones are Missouri, Ohio, and Mississippi. Then there is Illinois, Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky (I think?)....those are all the states I know with rivers named after them but I'm sure there must be more....care to take a stab at it?
Illinois was named after the Illiniwek indian people (Algonquinan tribal nation), but only in French (meaning "land of the Illiniwek, or something like that). The river name came after the state was named.
EDIT: nevermind, I read the post wrong. Yes, youre correct, Illinois has a river named after it. ;-)
Though the state actually acquired it's name from this river, the Kansas River; which is also known as the "Kaw River". For a long time, I thought they were two separate rivers that both merged into the Missouri River. However since taking the time to look for myself I now know they are one and the same. I also know the State of Kansas needs a few more bridges to cross this river thru out the metro area.
