Modesto is a meth infested arm-pit. Very high crime. That list looks pretty accurate to me.

Washington, D.C. - This is mostly because of the gentrification taking place in the District. A lot of the inner city, including most of SOutheast and Northeast are still very ghetto, but gentrification has pushed the ghetto into the Maryland suburbs, especially Prince George's County, which is now filled with ghetto thugs and illegal immigrants. Crime there is ridiculous. The crime rate in PG County is higher than even New York City or Miami.

Also Los Angeles cause its so spread out. Compton technically isn't in the City of LA and neither is Englewood I don't think.

NYC sorta....the real boroughs are safer than before but northern New Jersey is as depressing and nasty as its always been especially Jersey City, Newark, Elizabeth, Asbury Park, etc etc etc.

If you count Oakland as a separate metro area from San Francisco then its very bad cause most of the east side of San Francisco Bay except for Berkeley is very ghetto and dangerous. Oakland was the sketchiest city I've been in outside of Philly and Baltimore. A lot of surrounding areas are also very bad.

The Morgan Quitno information is fairly accurate.

The company simply researches the amount of crime in a metro area and divides that number by the population.

That's one reason St. Louis gets a bad rap as the most dangerous city. The city represents about 13% of the metro area and houses the worst areas. So of course the city will rank high on the crime list. Taking into account the whole metro area is a much more accurate view of a cities crime ranking.

Every metro is safe. You just have a couple areas in a city and some of the cities immediate suburbs that are kind of dangerous. But that's it. Every metro has one of those. There honestly isn't a real answer to this question.

There is,some metros have a higher crime rate, but that could also be because there is some really dangerous cities in that metro.

St. Louis metro is very safe. And, the city is also safe except for the North side. Many parts of St. Louis county(especially inside 270) would be considered part of the city in many other metros, Houston, Chicago etc...

I have to question any list that includes 3 small SC towns in the top 25. Well, Myrtle Beach...maybe.
