Based on very little knowledge at all, I'd say the city is the first thing I think of, but upon slightly longer reflection, the other picture might be more typical.
So ... just trying to figure out what your point in all this is ... If all of those "mystery places" are not in the Midwest, Chicago is more Midwestern.
If the "mystery places" are in the Midwest, then they're all Midwestern.
