You have to consider Milwaukee WI. Couple of the top chefs in the NATION. Maybe few and far between Foodie places in suburbs, but my sister has taken us to some quality places within the city and across the east side and downtown. Gastro is there too. Chefs who located from Chicago, L.A.. .gotta do your homework to find them but regular visitors know Milwaukee is Americas best kept Foodie secret. Would like to see more but the economy needs to improve too. See my link below foodies!

I haven't been to many of the listed, but Columbus has many restaurants which would rival what I could find in the Bay Area, especially where Japanese, Indian & Mediterranean food is concerned.

This is a ridiculous statement. I am a chef. In my experience people who are into food describe themselves as foodies regardless of what city they live in.

It's also accurate. "Eclectic" is another Narnian buzzword. lol, just read this topic. Every Narnian city has chefs from LA and NYC!

It would have to be Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

It's close to the Midwest, but Louisville takes high honors with the foodie distinction. Excellent restaurant scene.

And has been that way for a long time, I lived there in the mid to late 80s, the beginning of the current scene was happening then.
There was an outstanding restaurant on Bardstown called the Magnolia Grill, fabulous French/Asian fusion.
