I would suggest taking a trip to Grand Junction,Colorado. It has many trees,Colorado River,And it has a metro population of just a bit under 200k,Mountains, 4 seasons with Snow & alot of sun. With what you just described, GJ has the perfect atmospher for you

Heh! Ironic - I relate to the OP in their preferences, am originally from Grand Junction, and often describe it as an environ I particularly DON'T like. The trees were all planted, except perhaps for a few junipers (as another poster said, yuck ). Drive south on HWY 50 to see why the natural landscape is not what the OP is looking for . Here's a shot that should be familiar to you if you're from the area:

All that said, I do agree it's a great area in other respects - sun, 4 seasons, outdoor activities, not too big/not too small... but for a tree lover like me? No way!

Ya, but much less so than Grand Junction! South of the downtown is a nice valley that I think someone who loves trees could be happy in.

Anywhere on the eastern side of the country is very likely to be forested. With the exception of some Midwest areas.
