Obviously Americans don't care for that environment or we would have what you are asking for. Never the less it is hard to blow off L.A, Miami or San Diego as "non urban" by typical U.S. standards.
You could say New York is a beach city since it has beaches in Queens and Brooklyn and Coney Island. Plus I consider Los Angeles and San Francisco to be major beach cities, same with Miami.

^Well Atlantic City kinda fits the bill, but it's really small and tourist-oriented. But it definitely has urban infrastructure and the beach is definitely a centerpiece of the city.

jus making a quick Jersey Shore joke lol but yeah i guess AC could fit the bell if it becomes a major city rather than the las vegas of the east coast.
Those cities - NYC, Atlantic City, and San Francisco are not tropical, warm-most-of-the-year, beach cities, which is what I'm talking about here.
LA and Miami are, but they are not the type of walkable urban I'm referring to.
That's my point, in this country you can't get both. I agree Honolulu is as close as it gets, but still not that close.
