Dear friends,
I am a freshly minted US resident. I will be moving to the States in 3 weeks and unfortunately at the moment I have no job offers (I am targeting entry level finance jobs while being physically in Canada, maybe that's the case). Which city, Houston or Dallas, do you think is more preferable for a recent graduate who got a good university degree in a quantitative field and is looking for a not necessarily fancy first job? Thank you very much for any input. I've been reading this forum for several months and got really addicted to it:-)

I lived in Houston for over 25 years, moving away this past January. Inside Texas, much is made over the difference between the two cites. In the grand scheme of things, however, they are not that much different. Both are big sprawling, growing cities located on pretty flat plains. Being near the coast, Houston has more access to salt water and has more trees while Dallas is more of a prairie town. There is little substantial difference between their mass transit systems (neither are that great but both are getting better) or cost of living. Dallas can be a bit warmer and Houston is more humid. Houston is the more international city, as it's the center of the energy industry and has a major port. Both are "liberal," but only in a Texas sense (libertarian is a more apt description).

If none of those distinctions are significant to you, my advice is take the best job in either city. I also suggest you search the Texas forum where you will find numerous similar threads and opinions different from mine.

Good luck.

I see nothing in his inquiry regarding the "speediest city" for landing a job. I answered the OP my way. You can answer him or her your way, or you can choose take issue with my answer. Either way, I don't care.
