When you hear somebody mention "Carolina" in a song or somewhere else, do you think of North Carolina or South Carolina first? What are the reasons that make you think of the state that you do think of first? Please don't bash either of the states, I do not intend on this being an argument thread.

The only thing that comes to mind...is tobacco and banjo's...

I'd say North first...but only because of time spent there...

Well since family lives in Cary/Raleigh & Wilmington, NC I'd have to go with North Carolina. It's a beautiful state, nice people too. Excellent beaches and coastline in both North and South. The vibe in NC is more up my alley but Charleston is one of the prettiest cities I've seen.

I'm just curious, how is the vibe different in NC vs. SC?

I've never been to either.

South for me because I'm a native South Carolinian. But I can see how a lot of people would say North, especially since UNC is more commonly known as "Carolina." USC is called that as well but it's not as noted as UNC.

Personally, I don't think either has a common statewide vibe. I think it's more of a rural vs urban thing within each state. For instance, one would get a different vibe in NC from Charlotte to Winston-Salem to Asheville to New Bern. One would also get a different vibe in SC from Greenville to Columbia to Charleston to Myrtle Beach.

That's another point of reference also. Although the Panthers do represent both Carolinas, they are based in Charlotte so the team is associated more with NC.

And then there's the fact that NC is the larger and faster-growing state with cities starting to get more exposure nationally (Charlotte, Raleigh).

North Carolina.

When I hear the name, I think of something different each time. I would think of various things such as Asheville, Biltmore Estate, Charlotte, UNC, Tar Heels, Panthers, Bank of America, Wright Brothers & Kitty Hawk, Cape Hatteras, and John Edwards.

The beaches of South are way better, I hate the outer banks.
