Other than California, I haven't the slightest idea. Most likely, a subset of the BLUE states as of the 2004 election.

Illinois, California, Washington state are some states that seem better for you preferences than Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, etc.
What is with the Hate towards Maryland also Maryland and Virginia are Southern States.........

Here are the ones that I could NOT live in and enjoy:

Any more questions?

How did Americans come to take such intense pride in their stupefying intolerance and narrow-mindedness?

I think I'll split this up in to regions.

Northeast (Including New England)
Boston, MA

Mid-Atlantic
Annapolis, MD

Southeast
Personally lived in Savannah, GA and loved living downtown.
Other than Savannah, I wouldn't mind living in Miami Beach, FL
(humidity is a definite negative in this region though)

Midwest
Chicago, IL

Southwest
Tempe, AZ or Las Vegas, NV
(possibly Albuquerque, NM)

Northwest
Seattle, WA

For me, I love urbanity and being close to everything my life needs. A nice skyline helps too!

So, if you enjoy visiting lots of states but prefer to live in certain states over others, that is intolerant and narrow-minded?

Anything that is remotely opposite of the aggressive, invasive, and cut-throat attitudes of the Northeast/East Coast, and anyplace that has more interesting topography than the bland and monotonous Mid-Atlantic region would be preferable for me.
Well this attitude is still better than the types of people with over the top opinions of praise for the Northeast and dont see how other places can compare.

But still, you could like areas of the Northeast while liking plenty of other places.

California, Washington state, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii, Texas, and New Mexico were also on my list for states in the USA I could live in and enjoy
but I also had New York state, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Illinois on my list.

Also if Washington DC was in a particular state, that state would also be on my list. But Washington DC has the notable distinction of not technically being in any state. It would be nice if Washington DC was in an actual state or maybe it is better for it to be its own special federal administration zone and not to be in an actual state.
