Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

I'm sure the people there are great, it's just that the flatness would drive me crazy.

This.

Actually, Nebraska is NOT flat. It is quite hilly and beautiful in many areas. However, I don't expect anyone on this thread to believe that.

You want flat, try Florida. I grew up there, and I love hiking. The first time I was able to hike with elevation changes, it just about killed me . . . or killed my legs, at any rate.

I was thinking of the same. I am not drawn to it for that reason, even to visit really. Not that it doesn't look nice, but there are too many places on my list already.

This is exactly what draws me to it. I have no intention of living there, so why would I worry about fitting in? To me, I get more of a charge out of seeing what all of the hype is about.

I got tired being asked by Europeans if I'd been to Utah, as they all found it so spectacular. So, I bit the bullet and spent two weeks there one year. Utah has some of the most beautiful national parks in the country, among them Zion, Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands. I am fairly areligious, yet found the people there very welcoming. I'm not discussing living there, as so many factors go into that equation. For anyone afraid to visit Utah, I'd advise you to put your prejudices aside.
