Good Safe African American Communities (middle-class, how much, houses)

Would anyone like to list safe, prospering African American cities or towns anywhere in the US? And how do you keep these places thriving? What do you do to keep the "ghetto" element out?

I dont think the city matters. Every city Ive been to with a noticable African American population had at least one prospering middle class black area within the metro. Some are bigger than others but most towns have them just gotta do a little diggin.

Best way to keep the "ghetto" element out is to keep poor people out. Do that by keeping the housing prices high (i.e. high medium income residents) and a good school system. Apparently DC is the place to be now but there are other places that are just as good..

find a city you like and don't think about race...the way to fix problems like this is to make race a non-issue in the way we think

I'd say that this isn't always the case, especially if you go to many of the little towns in the South.

This isn't exactly what I was looking for - see Detroit and Cleveland are predominantly AA but their also fubbed up! I want lists of prospersous black communities, and not some bourgois blue vein society "Jack and Jill" B.S., just healthy thriving communities where educated normal well adjusted blacks live. How about Powder Springs, GA just to start things off.

Vader - true keeping the houses and taxes high is one way, but then you cut off the ability for new middle-class or working-class blood of quality to intergrate the neighborhood. I think keeping ghetto rot out of a neighborhood depends more on how tightly nit the community is, and how much back-bone the citizens have to stand up and chase out the poison when it tries to pollute the area. Also, the police, city council, mayors office, etc., have to be willing to back these people's efforts to preserve their community.

There are plently of safe, middle and upper class black neighborhoods/cities around here. Prince George's County, MD is the largest and wealthiest predominantly black county in America.

After researching, it seems you are very correct. However, I think it has to do more with culture than race. There are elements in the AA culture that are acceptable that may not be acceptable in other race cultures. It's not the color of the skin... its the thought process, the home life, the rearing of the children, what the money is spent on, etc. Its not that its wrong... its just different.
