Michigan and Canada just agreed to a $2 billion deal to construct a new bridge crossing between Detroit and Windsor. No time tables yet.

View from Canada of the two proposals (unsure if the design is finalized yet).

In addition to the bridge, money will be used to improve the surrounding community and roads within the state of Michigan.

the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project has just begun...they are doing prelim. work such as pile driving etc. According to the state website set up for the project, the construction of the actual bridge won't begin until this fall but is expected to go through 2017. The New NY Bridge

^^^ Yes, it's a design/build, so construction won't start for a while, obviously. Three proposals from qualified joint ventures were received in late July and are under review now. Don't know when they expect to name a winner, but it's a process.

Not to be picky, but it's actually the Metropolitan Transportation Council, which is made up of reps from Putnam, Westchester and Rockland counties. The city has nothing to do with it, since it's so far upriver. BUT YEAH, it's approved! Good thing, because they've shortlisted DB teams already, lol.

They really need that bridge. The old one is just not safe and not built to handle today's traffic.
