No, if anything states should get more power, as a large country people in different regions need different needs,
Why can't the federal government or a system of metropolitan ran city-state like areas do it?
Some states are already too large to be viable as units. You can't say that a state like California, which has many different areas with completely different needs. Why not break it up or let the feds run it?
Or an area like the Northeast, where everything is relatively small and needs multiple states to get along to coordinate policy. Why not consolidate the region so that working together will be easier?

No Rhode Island for example is differant from Massachusetts, and anyway when they need to work together they do ex. MBTA extends to TF Green Airport.
Also if the Feds cant manage the country the way it is how will they Micro- manage the country.
I just realized the poll and thread title are asking two different things.
The original question should be "Should we abolish state lines"
I meant to vote yes. Damn!
How do you propose we "abolish" state-lines? And who is this "we" which should be vested with the power to do it? And what do "we" re-name this new country? Simply "America"...? Also, what about that pesky "Constitution of the United States" which mentions the the individual states extensively and is devoted to the idea of a Federal Republic? Along those lines, will the 9th and 10th Ammendments of the Bill of Rights be eliminated since they give all powers not specifically delegated to the federal government to the states (and people)?

This is ridiculous....
Reb! You mis-voted, you put "no" on having states!
But other than that, yes you are right.
The STATES made the Union, not the other way around.
Hell no. Every state and region is different. Different cultures, different economies, different climates, and different priorities. Part of the genius of this country is that individual regions and states have some degree of autonomy in the decisions and the priorities they make. A one-size-fits-all solution would be a disaster. For example, the South continues to economically grow at a much faster relative to the rest of the country, the result of any number of decisions Southern states have made over the past several decades in terms of priorities.

Ohhhhh, NOOOOOO! IRONY INTENDED!
You are right, DK. I voted according to the thread heading, not the wording of the actual poll!
I hope this one might be started again! Ridiculous as the whole concept is, it seems others made the same mistake I did! Thanks for the heads up, DK!
