Yeah, it has to be the Pacific NW. Portland's fan base is no slouch either. Of course the major California areas are good and the NYC and Philly areas are decent. A sleeper is Rochester NY, which has a pro women's team, a men's minor league team and Abby Wambach is from that area.

I read somewhere five of the people on the women's World Cup team were from New Jersey, so that's pretty impressive. I went to my first Philly Union game a couple weeks ago, the energy was crazy. Felt like a college game.

Interesting. I might have thought it would be a city with a large Hispanic population. Like Los Angeles or Miami.

Agree with OP the NFL does nothing for me, a bunch of spoiled, overpayed brats, with a few decent people Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Dhani Jones etc. thrown in. College football is so much better.

MLS still doesen't do it for me...but of MLS cities definitely Seattle.

As a whole Cali, Ohio, Florida, and the Chicagoland area I think are the best soccer areas in the US

Unfortunately not many people appreciate the beauty and skill of the game because they've either never played it or think it's "un-American" and thus worthy of scorn.

The funny thing is soccer has way, way, way better rivalries and fan bases than the NFL could ever hope for. (At least in Europe which is the highest level of the game, like the NFL is for football)

The best fan bases in the US are the college football fan bases. Not the NFL fan bases. If you are going to make a comparison to the fanatical European soccer fan bases, it is the only fair comparison to make. Fans from places like Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Auburn, Texas, Oklahoma, Penn State, Nebraska, etc put NFL fans to shame. I've even heard Europeans say that they can respect our college football culture.

I can agree with this.

I wish we could get rid of the NFL, back in the 60's through 80's it was very respectable, lots of tough guys, Buttkus, Lambert, Nagurski, Czonka etc. but now its a bunch over hyped cocky loud mouths who have don't deserve half of what they make often times. Same goes for the NBA

Same goes for all pro sports, to an extent. There are still some good guys out there, who are humble, and realize they are blessed with natural talent, truly appreciate the fans who help pay for their way of life, and who dedicate themselves to their communities.

But unfortunately the big bucks that professional athletes bring in has also developed a culture of cockiness, arrogance, and frivolity, that along with a sense of entitlement, develops in the early years when young athletes are given pretty much everything they want to play for certain teams. By the time some of these kids reach the professional level, they are corrupted beyond repair.
