Some are still around but they're not all white anymore

simon city royals and gaylords are still active, they just arent stupid and commit murders all the time, cause it brings attention to them and thier operations.

lists only 5 homicides this year and even if you're right at 8, the combined populations and murders make Cleveland's rate go from 22.7 to 23.1. Not counting the 11 bodies recently found (not yet ruled officially homicides) the rate drops to 20.8.
Contrasting that with E. St. Louis and St. Louis the murder rate goes from 33.8 to 39.4 as ESL is over 100.

You can't determine the murder rate yet.. it's not the end of the year. And December is Cleveland's most violent month.
22.7 would be the rate if we had 100 homicides. Cleveland's already above 90 so far and there are 2 months left.

I just have to put in my two cents, I don't want to try to boost St Louis by putting down other cities, but I think that saying Louisville and Indy are superior is just plain ridiculous. I have spent a LOT of time in both cities and have relatives that reside in Louisville. They both have great things going on and I think I could be happy living in either.
In saying that, I have lived in St Louis for almost 6 years. I am not from the area, so I have no reason to make things sound better than they are. St Louis is a pretty cool place to live. I spent the first 3 years in the burbs and then the last 3 down in the city.
The reason STL downtown may seem less lively than others is because there are so many other neighborhoods that people are frequenting. Soulard, Lafayette Square, Central West End, South Grand, The Loop, Clayton, Maplewood are all areas that are bustling with activity.
The crime stats are skewed, if the entire metro was counted like in every other major city, we wouldn't break the top 20. That is a shame because I believe that many people read those lists and develop an opinion without ever visiting. I have never had any problems in the 6 years I have been in the area. However, North STL is very bad and account for most of the crime stats. I won't even drive through there anymore. If one was driving through STL on Highway 70 this is all they would see and I don't blame them on having a bad impression of the city.
In my south city neighborhood there are people from all over the world, and they all love it here. I went out to dinner last night with 12 girls from my neighborhood, only one person was actually from STL. Others were from San Diego, Albuquerque, Chicago, Montreal, Columbus, New York, San Francisco and Baltimore. My friend from San Diego said she couldn't wait for her California friends to come in town for her wedding because she wants to show them how cool St Louis is. Whether it was love or a job that brought them here, they were all content to stay.
At 29 years old I own a great house in a cool neighborhood. The cost of living rocks and there is always something to do. The architecture is very beautiful and there are really great parks. My husband may be transferred to a new city soon and I am always up for a change, but I will definitely miss my time in STL.
