Seriously, some of you remind me of when Conan's Triumph the Insult Comic Dog did the Hawaiian weather.
I was not adding dramatic effect to my prior statement. Winter greenery (pines, firs, spruces, hemlocks) really make winters more pleasant when you are in a climate zone that is extremely cloudy. Cloudy weather with only bare trees gets old quickly.

You are from Dayton, and please don't misunderstand, as I know you know Ohio from personal experience way better than I do.

But as someone who is not from there who has only visited, and I don't want to minimize whatever struggles the state is facing,

but I think the big 3 C-cities are a major exception to what you describe.

Akron, Toledo, Dayton, and absolutely Youngstown maybe seriously struggling the way you describe, but Cincy, C-Bus, and Cleveland do indeed have a critical mass of population and assets, that they are realizing that.

Cincy, is still a corporate giant with Proctor and Gamble, and MANY others. Columbus has an economy and population growth that is better than Chicago, Cleveland while struggling economically more so than the other two,
is exremely diverse, with many of the same ethnic neighborhoods that one might find in Chicago. And has seen its urban nieghborhoods become nightlife hotspots.

To suggest that Ohio ONLY offers wholesome family living, is nonsense. Maybe outside of the big 3 C-cities, but those cities themselves at least in certain specific aspects have very superlative qualities.

And in the cities themselves you have lots of religious diversity. All three have significant Jewish populations, and are probably majority catholic. Cleveland with Italian americans, eastern europeans, and hispanics (mostly puerto ricans, and cincinnati - well thats largely German catholics with some Irish, but you get the point. The big three Cs are very diverse.

I like your post, but the citizens of the three Cs should stand up and shout out that at least collectively the have everything and every counterpart that Chicago has.

I mean come on, Ohio is NOT Iowa!! (No offense to Iowans)
You should have written the original post, because at least you seem to know what you're talking about.

And I'd hardly call you an expert. Ohio is very green for most of the year (obviously not in January). If you can't see that, you've either never been here or are color blind.

For you, sure. I don't find Ohio particularly cloudy, nor do I find bare trees particularly bad. The weather issues here are probably the most overblown out of everything else combined.

When did Americans become so weak that they can't handle a little adversity with something as mundane as clouds.

What makes Toledo worse than Dayton, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown? Compared to Ohio's other midsized cities I think Toledo stacks up pretty well. The Museum of Art, the Hens/Walleye, a beautiful riverfront/Lake Erie, some great restaurants, University of Toledo and BGSU nearby, and Toledo Botanical gardens are all great assets.

It's just a personal preference. I prefer coniferous or mixed forests, reliable snowcover, and at least 50% sunny days during winter. What I don't care for about the Ohio Valley is temperatures in the 30s and 40s all winter, overcast the majority of the time, little snow, and tons of mud. I don't know too many people that enjoy those conditions. It does make for eating lots of comfort food like stew, chili, soup, and other such items, though.

It's more if anything, of a long complaint about a specific state and it's not really on topic for this room. I'll leave it up in case anyone gets anything out of it - however, the topic is closed. Please see the room sticky for guidelines for future reference: What is Considered On-Topic Here in General US? What topics belong in the City vs. City subforum? What are the Rules?
