So in your view San Jose's DT is nicer than Seattle's? Really?

Get out more. Seriously.

I don't mean to dis southern California, but downtown Santa Monica is more like an outdoor shopping mall than a proper downtown, and downtown L.A. is extremely dirty and difficult to get around.

How does one define "downtown New York City"? Is it all of Lower Manhattan?

rofl. San Jose can't hold a candle to downtown Seattle. Downtown Seattle is one of the most impressive downtowns in the United States...few people think of San Jose when thinking of really nice downtowns.

At the end of the day it's all anyone's opinion so no real right or wrong answer. Downtown Burlington always gets nothing but rave reviews. It's not NYC with 8 million skyscrapers and constant hustle and bustle but it's charm, quaintness and small town feel leads to its notoriety. San Jose has a lot of downtown residents so there's going to be foot traffic but for the most part lack other traffic (conventions, etc) that San Fran gets on top of its downtown population. When you think of San Jose, you tend to only think about Silicon Valley and not really associate it with anything else. It's kind of like the step child in the region with everyone focused on San Fran and Oakland.

I nearly gagged when I read that San jose downtown should be there. Really.. its dead. Los Gatos has a nicer downtown. San Jose is the capital of ugly urban sprawl with cookie cutter ranch homes with no character. Ugh.

I can vouch for him since I just came back from Seattle. There are a lot of crimes and drug problems in Downtown Seattle while San Jose's is tame. Dt. Seattle is hard to get around due to all the hills and some gritty areas you have to watch out for. San Jose has very little problems downtown and or gritty areas.

People can walk to everything: movie theater, Safeway, Walgreens, Peet's coffee, floral shops, Bijan Bakery, lightrail, nightclubs, restaurants, stores, puplic market and etc. It's such a mature and happening downtown that's very clean, safe and very easy to get around with its Dash shuttle.

I disagree. San Jose has one of the most attractive and happening downtown that's safer, cleaner and easier to get around which is well used by local people, unlike Downtown Seattle which are mostly tourists and people connecting ships to go on cruises.
