My worst states would be
1. Alabama (Poor, racist, and nothing that interests me)
2. Illinois (other than parts of Chicago, very boring)
3. Nebraska (In terms of things to see, there is nothing at all for me. I think it would be a nice state to live in, just not to visit)

Off topic and insulting to Alabama.

There is more to Alabama than racism and poverty.

1. Maryland - It really is "America in Miniature" There is tons of history in Maryland, Beaches (not that great) Mountains, large urban cities, sprawling suburbs, great camping, decent weather. Good food in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.
2. Florida - (My home state) Beaches Beaches Beaches Great Shopping, Low Taxes, CLEAN, Plenty of things to do in the interior of Florida as well like go to the springs, theme parks. I love that some parts of Florida are still "southern."
3. Ohio - The people in Ohio are awesome. I enjoyed Cincinnati in-particular and the food in Ohio is awesome. It must be because its at the meeting point of the Mid-West, South and East Coast. I loved the all-american feel of Ohio.

* I have only been to LA, and have not seen the rest of CA. I am 100% sure that if I had experienced the entire state it would be in the #1 Spot.

California: Beautiful beaches, perfect weather (aside from Northern California, in my opinion), beautiful people (this is of course subjective, but I've always found it to be true) and a fantastic melting pot of different cultures and cuisines. As an Australian, I always appreciate a good beach. You also have beautiful locations like Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, to name the most famous. As someone mentioned before, any place where you can ski during the day and relax on the beach in the evening is a place worth spending some time in.

Massachusetts: Home to one of my favorite cities in the U.S., Boston. Great history, nice people, liberal atmosphere and beautiful coastline. I'm dying to get a summer home somewhere in Cape Cod.

New York: New York City - it just has it all. You also have beautiful upstate New York. I recently spent a week and Lake Placid, and was blown away by the beauty.

1. Hawaii-beautiful weather, beautiful beaches, beautiful scenery with the ocean and rainbows, beautiful people, and amazing food.
2. Arizona-sunny all the time, warm weather, beautiful scenery with the mountains and cacti, Spring Training.
3. Florida-Spring Training, hot weather, beautiful beaches, and Disney World.

I live in Iowa where it's too effen cold, so my top 3 are where it's warm.
