I need help deciding where to live? My wife and I just moved from Hawaii to Maryland so she could finish her degree. We love HI but it's unlikely we can afford to move back. We are both from the East Coast and would like to find a place on this side that will reflect some of the pro's that Hawaii had (apart from the weather of course). We've been thinking New England? I'm originally from RI but the economy there isn't great so looking at other locals. Close to ocean would rock, could do other big water too though. Looking for a community feel, where we can raise our children (in a same-sex friendly place), culture, liberal, nature, Ultimate Frisbee, green minded, and where people are active outside a lot- running, hiking, camping etc. We are both educators so money is an issue though I'm willing to spend a little more for a happy place to live. Suggestions?

Burlington is surely on our list as is Massachusetts- though there are so many towns there it's hard to know which to look at. Currently Portland ME also on the radar. Anyone have more towns in Mass to check out?

Philadelphia has a big ultimate presence, is an hour from the ocean, and fits a few of your other criteria.
