Probably Little Rock. Pretty close to where I'm from compared to the other cities listed (except for Nashville) and it isn't hard to find a down home feeling still since I'm not particularly a fan of big cities. Maybe Charlotte since it has a good economy and North Carolina was the home of several of my ancestors (Iredell County to be exact).

Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans, or somewhere in the Appalachians are the only southern places I could/would ever live long-term. There's country and there's city, but everything in between is a wasteland

I have spent at least a little time in all of those cities. For me it would come down to a decision between Nashville or Savannah. I prefer Savannah's location (love the water), but it is a lot smaller and I've discovered that I'd rather be somewhere bigger.

Right now I'd lean towards Nashville b/c of its size and economy, but if it were actually a decision I was making then I would need to visit Savannah again to be sure.

Someone is stuck in 2007... Northern cities have Lower unemployment in general than southern cities.

If forced to I suppose you are right. Charlotte is by far the most transplant friendly of all of those cities, plus you are 6 hours from DC if you want to go to a major dense international city. If you like mountains or beach, you are fairly close to both also. It is probably less "southern" than the rest of those cities on the list, if that is an issue for you. If you are family, North Carolina has by far the best universities for your kids. With all cities I think you get the state that goes along with it and what it is close to in reality.

The only two of that list I would NOT live in are Savannah and Little Rock. If I had to pick one it'd be Charlotte because I like NC and am a big Carolina Panthers fan.

I used to live in Charlotte and greatly enjoyed it; still visit often and it's also my first choice among these cities. But as a native SC'er, I have a fondness for Columbia and because I figured it wouldn't get as many votes here going up against larger and more tourist-friendly cities, I voted for it. It has more going for it than most realize.

Voted Nashville because I think it would be the easiest place to acclimate. If it was a job promotion and I was told I could go to any on the list, Savannah is the most intriguing but I have a feeling that might be a tough place for a transplant to gel.

If I could go anywhere in between the choices, I would probably vote for the Research Triangle or Asheville, NC.

Charlotte AKA "Atlanta, Jr."

It's the bigger city, so it would be the obvious choice, for me. Savannah and Nashville would be close seconds, and with a great paying job, I'm sure I wouldn't mind Little Rock, Columbia, or Richmond.
