That's what everyone in the entire country has diners other than (or in addition to) Waffle House for! I think it's perfectly fine to have a nostalgic attachment to a place like WH, I could say the same for A&W's with carhops along with several other chains, but objectively the WH food isn't good and it doesn't offer any special foods unavailable elsewhere.
Also from NJ (which probably has more diners per square mile then anywhere...where is that map?), I have eaten at a waffle house once in PA, and it was pretty damn good. They would make a welcome addition to the diner state (NJ)
(Shrug) Maybe I've just had bad luck. I've been to 2 Waffle Houses, one in Harrisonburg VA and one in Brunswick GA. Both times I found the food to be really bad and the restaurants to be gross (flies, sticky tables, etc.). I'd pick a NJ diner or even an IHOP 100 times out of 100 over Waffle House.
I bought a super bowl ticket at a waffle house in FL
Sadly the Eagles lost - did indulge in a 40 pack of burgers from some place in FL - not a chain up this way - it soaked up the loss sadness and maybe the alcohol too
I was never happier to see a WH than when I had to go to West side of Columbus Ohio for work.
I tried a couple of places I found, and they were not so good. The I found WH on Roberts Road.
Breakfast there every day for the rest of my time in Columbus.

Yes, my point in my post kind of was that NJ has a known, special diner culture. Of course every state has diners, but we are known for (or at least we should be) having the most diners and for them being such a big part of our state culture.
I wouldn't object to having a few Waffle Houses. I've never been to one but I'm willing to try. Still love my good old diners though.
