There was a Waffle House right down the street where I lived and I never went to it. I think it's closed now. We all just went to Ihop at 4 in the morning.
The peach state boasts unparalleled Waffle House density. Note the ramp-up effect as evidenced via cross country trip from AZ. By the time one makes it here, they begin to look more and more like brownstones.
That is the truth. When I was stationed at Fort Gordon, just outside of Augusta, they were everywhere. Not a bad spot though. I wish we had a couple up here in NY.

When I was working in Ohio they were everywhere in the southern part of the state. They looked dirty and filled with the dregs of society.... so naturally it was great.
Yes, Waffle House's in Ohio serve grits.
I was in Columbus for work a while back. When I got there, I was hungry, and wanted to find food before going to the hotel. As I was driving, suddenly in the distance that sigh appeared.
Can it be true?
YES!!! Waffle House.
I walk in the door, and that familiar, "Hello!" from all the associates.
I was home.
I have to say, I just don't like Waffle House. Frankly, it isn't that good plus in general I hate chains like that b/c the service is poor and people don't care that much and it doesn't help the local economy. I like to try everything once though... so I have been there. I'm not above eating at some greasy diner but I try to avoid places like Waffle House at all cost.
Being from NY, I never heard of them. I went once since moving to Florida. I didn't like the food, dirty restaurant, rude staff, never again. Yes, I will stick with IHOP.
