I can't think of any big mall or major store that is open on Xmas. Most close early on Xmas Eve. Here in NYC the big stores close around 6, I think. Only stores open after that until 12/26 are usually small local ones run by Jews or non-Christian immigrants, like some Asians and Arabs. Everybody also closes early New Year's Eve, with the exceptions above and, of course, entertainment and restaurant venues. Have no idea what mall/shopping places are open on New Year's Day. After the night before, who wants to go shopping?
It's only a matter of time as retailers scramble for any loose change left to be had and could care less about their employees, as evidenced by recent Black Friday practices (opening at 10pm and going all night). I've stopped shopping with those retailers as a result.
