Grasping at straws a little? if the survey had shown that Calif. was the least fat, you would be saying it was perfectly reliable! By the way, I used to live in San Diego, the so called fittest city and I saw way more fat people there than anywhere else I have lived (Texas and New York).

These statistics may be correct but under what conditions were they taken, did they have a high school kid standing on a street corner with a little clicker going hmm that one looks a bit fat yup it's a click, I would like to see some studies on coronary disease rates, diabetes, respiratory disease, and joint problems across the states to see just how they compare in that relationship.

I think a lot of adults are obese because of

Longer work hours mean less time. Some are just too tired after working 10+ hours a day to come home and exercise for an hour or two. You have to include the drive home. Then they have to come home and take care of the kids.
More stress. Stress creates cortisol. Food is a cheap quick fix drug for stress.
More antibiotics and hormones in the food supply.
More pesticides in the food supply.
More office jobs. People used to eat MORE food before office jobs and worked it off on farms. Sit in a cubicle for 10+ hours a day and only take a few bathroom breaks, and see how slim you are.
Weather. Live in California and you can be out all year long. But hot humid summers and long cold winters make it hard to get out. Snow makes it hard too.
The bottom line is...if you want something bad enough, you will find a way. Even a little exercise and packing that huge salad with chicken on it will make a big difference. And no fast food. No sodas. Eat a peach.
