This is a freaking hallmark holiday. There's nothing remotely religious about it nor it is a real holiday.

Good Friday (STATE HOLIDAY IN 11 states!) - is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
This is not a holiday. The reason banks are closed is because Easter is on Sunday. and yes Easter is a religious holiday.

Halloween - ( All Hallows' Eve) - Day before All Saint's Day !.
Not a holiday.

.
Good Friday is a state holiday in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. State and local government offices and courts are closed, as well as some banks and postal offices in these states.

Most public schools are also closed - either as a holiday of its own, or part of spring break.

Easter always fall on a Sunday, so no need to make it a holiday anyway.
But almost every mall is closed on Easter Sunday.

Emilio, when you live in a country where the majority is of one religion you can expect their holidays to be holidays observed.

In Israel all Jewish holidays are observed, in Muslim majority countries Muslim countries are observed.

That is just the reality and it is fair.

I am Jewish and I teach my kids to be proud and we celebrate our holidays.

You're the only Jew saying that

Do you put up a Christmas tree at your house as well? Or what Christmas holidays do you celebrate? Maybe your partner is Christian

Maybe I misunderstood, but I took Jazzymom's post about being proud and celebrating "our" holidays as reference to Jewish holidays.

If I moved to Israel, can I expect Christian holidays to be celebrated because I'm in the 2% of Christians living there?

Should Christian holidays be celebrated in Israel is addition to the Jewish holidays?

The number of Christians in Israel is comparable to the number of Jews in America.

Christmas has turned into a dual Holiday.
Christians will celebrate it as a religious day of joy.

but there are plenty of atheists, agnostics, jews (and I also now a couple of Muslims and Hindis that celebrate it as a gathering time for family and friends.

The well known side note is that the date of Christmas was set to coincide with the winter solstice. Jesus was most likely born around April. Other theories are that born of a Virgin may mean that he is a virgo (but this should be in the reilgion forum...)
